The acoustic set that rocked
02.01.2006
When the album was finished, I was asked to do an acoustic set by Pete Sawyer as part of an acoustic night at Robbins Well. I asked Kev if he was free, which he was and was then inspired to do something a little different. After all, the whole circle3 project is a test of the fates and I had an ask round a few musicians to see who was about.
Lewis from Kingtide was really keen on playing, so was Colin Locke who was their/our former drummer and took up some bongo’s. An open mic regular Sam Hayler told me he played Trombone and was in a brass band and could round up a couple more heads if I wanted.(Becky and Sarah) Meg Lloyd was free so we could do stubborn and randomly met a garage MC (Suggs) to do a rap on Million People to battle out with myself.
I remember the first practice with the brass section so well as I didn’t want it to stop. Never in my life had I heard my own songs come to life and sound so beautiful.
By the time the gig was here, everyone kind of knew what they were doing and we never actually had a practice with us all in the same room, and luckily it paid off.
The gig started with just me and Kev sat on stools, we opened with Million People and looked as if it was just gonna be the 2 of us, until everyone else pops up, the brass and horns, the bongo’s, the bass then MC Suggs. It still is one of my favourite gigs we’ve done to date. The first one. The unofficial one. It paid off well and the response was really good, in fact I cant think of a night where we haven’t had a good response yet, which I guess is why I love the band so much, we’re not scared to experiment with ourselves and as the time passes by, we’ve evolved into something that I really love more each day.
