Circle 3 Biography
This is the whole story so far on the project and how it came about and why it will carry on for a long time to come…
In 2003 Paul Ryan was having a nap after work when he was suddenly woken by some sort of nightmare.
Gasping for breath as if he’d stopped breathing, Paul tried to figure out what the dream was about. “I can’t really remember much, at first I had aliens in my head, then I thought I’d died in my sleep, then I had a feeling that it was my phone that woke me up!” Paul looked at his phone and found no missed calls or messages that could of startled him to wake and carried on with his day.
“A few days later I went to ring a friend of mine called Clive, and as I scrolled down through the C’s I came across a new name, ‘circle’ and the phone number being just a ‘3’. My mind cast straight back to the nightmare I had and knew that’s when I’d entered it, in my sleep. I can see myself doing it” To enter a new name, number and save it would of taken a bit of effort, but this was done whilst he was asleep.
This totally baffled Paul and told a few friends who agreed that it was a little strange and just put it down to some sort of wierd thing that sometimes happens in life, until 3 months later when stuck in a traffic jam.
"I was working in Leicester, driving, and was stuck behind a truck, and the the dust was a number 3 and a circle around it. I thought to myself this was more than a coincidence, usually you get 'clean me' or some sort of football club written on the back but this was just a circle with a 3 in it. I really wanted to go and ask the driver what it meant but just sat there thinking it all through for ages about this being some sort of sign, it really got to me then"
Paul went on to try and find the meaning of Circle3, surfing the net, asking people what thier favorite shape and number was, but found nothing. It started playing on his mind for a while, until he came up with a plan.
"If I can't find what this means, then I'll let the meaning find me. I was playing in bands and wanting to travel the world, so I thought that I could set up some sort of project that ties up all my passions and call it, Circle 3"
So the name came first, then came the writing of the album ‘Phases’ which took 10 months of weekends and random half days to record with various artists around the UK and now the band has finally been formed and the gigs are getting stronger every time.
“The songs on Phases have been written over the past 8 years, ‘Blame it on myself’ being the oldest. I’ve met so many musicians over the years that I wanted on the album, but timing and costs meant I couldn’t have them all. I was working my arse off with job’s and solo gigs to pay for it all and despite some of the lows it has all been worth it. The band members are amazing people and we all get on so well, definitely the best writing, recording and performing I’ve ever done so far.”
The band is the first part of the project, there’s no time limit, just keep playing until they know it’s time to quit. Then the next stage of travelling the world will begin, opening a whole new chapter to this ongoing story.
“The third part of circle3 is the good causes side which has been running since the beginning, we’ve thrown a number of charity events involving music mainly, raising money for a load of charities. It feels good to give out what you can in time and money to help others less fortunate than yourselves; I just wish everyone would do the same.”
The team behind all the events are all volunteers and are logged into the Army of Angels page of this site. Some of the events held have been all day festivals like “Leam ‘n’ Aid”, “Party in the Pond” and 5 a side football competitions and BBQ’s and have all successfully raised money for the DEC, NSPCC, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, NDCS and more to come.
